A familiar event on the motoring calendar will return to Aberdeenshire later this year and will feature some new categories.
Running for 57 years, this year’s Kildrummy Rally takes place at Deeside Activity Park at Dess near Aboyne on Sunday, June 8.
The entry has evolved over the years with the majority of the entrants taking part in their classic vehicles from the 60s and 70s. Veteran and vintage vehicles are also invited as well as motorcycles and commercials.
But this year a new class will be introduced.
A spokesman for the club said: “In order to cater for the more modern entries we now see the judging classes include three classic car categories as well as the veteran and vintage classes, motorcycles, commercials and military vehicles. New for this year is the oily rag class. This has been introduced to encourage some new entries which we may not usually see at shows but are still interesting vehicles in their own right.
“We have seen a huge surge in popularity of non restored and barn find cars in recent years. Many owners have these vehicles tucked away as projects or simply enjoy driving them but may not have considered taking them to a rally.
“We would love to encourage the owners to take them along and show these interesting vehicles at Dess in June. They may even go home with the new Oily Rag trophy.”
The entry is open to all vehicles over 25 years old therefore anything pre 1989. The closing date for entries is May 26 and entry forms can be downloaded from the website, www.kildrummy-vintage-rally.org.uk
