Buckie goalkeeper Kevin Main produced a stunning second-half save on his 400th appearance for the club to deny United three Highland League points at the Haughs last night.
Stuart Cumming had fired Turriff ahead in the 15th minute from close-range, but on the half hour mark Chris Angus grabbed Buckie equaliser with a crisp and composed finish from 12 yards.
It was an important game for Buckie goalkeeper Main, who was made captain for the night on his 400th appearance in 11 seasons with the Victoria Park club.
And he was in the mood to impress. The home side really should have taken the lead in the 13th minute but a low Gary Harris drive was brilliantly blocked by Main.
However, the goalkeeper could do nothing about Turriff’s opener two minutes later.
Harris played the ball low across goal and Stuart Cumming turned it into the net at the back post.
Play was flowing from end to end and only another piece of brilliance from Main, when he dived to tip a curling 25-yard drive from Andy MacAskill round the post for a fruitless corner, stopped the home side from doubling the advantage in the 26th minute.
Buckie drew level on the half-hour mark when Angus found himself unmarked in the box and he expertly clipped the ball past Keirin McCaffrey from 12 yards, the midfielder’s fourth goal in two games after his match-winning hat-trick at Inverurie Locos on Saturday.
Just before the break, Harris had a half-chance to restore Turriff’s lead but Darren Wood closed him down as he was about to shoot.
Just after the restart Buckie goalkeeper Main again had to be on his toes when diving to his left to smother a fierce 20-yard drive from Aaron Shand and the experienced custodian repeated the feat two minutes later, this time holding on to a rasping
Craig MacAskill drive.
Main again came to his side’s rescue with a brave dive at the feet of Harris in the 57th minute.
On the hour mark Angus almost notched his second goal of the night, but his header came of the outside of McCaffrey’s left-hand post with the goalkeeper beaten.
In the 70th minute Main brought off the save of the night to parry Gary McGowan’s 20-yard effort.
With three minutes left it took yet another brave diving save by Main at the feet of attacker Harris to deny Turriff a late winner.
