Three canoeists were rescued by the Loch Ness lifeboat after getting into difficulty near Fort Augustus yesterday afternoon.
The trio had been paddling on the loch in a Canadian canoe when it started taking in water and capsized.
They spent several minutes in the water before they managed to swim ashore and scramble on to rocks.
All three were suffering from the cold when they were rescued by the lifeboat crew, but they did not need hospital treatment.
An Aberdeen Coastguard spokesman said the men made a 999 call from about a mile north of Fort Augustus at 5.36pm. He said Loch Ness lifeboat was launched and members of the local coastguard team were sent to the scene.
An RNLI spokeswoman said last night: “Loch Ness lifeboat received a call saying three canoeists were in trouble at the south end of the loch.
“They launched their inshore Atlantic-class lifeboat at 5.44pm and the crew were able to take it in close to the rocks, where the men had scrambled ashore.
“They had been in the water for two to three minutes and were very cold, but one of them was able to use his mobile phone and dialled 999.
She said the lifeboat took the three men to Fort Augustus, where they were checked over by paramedics.
