Singing Kettle join legend Jones

Legendary singer Tom Jones might have some competition for the biggest crowd when he performs at the Belladrum music festival near Inverness in the summer.

The Welsh star has helped the two-day event sell out faster than ever, but a new addition to the line-up is also expected to lure hordes of fans.

The Singing Kettle will perform on the Garden Stage on Friday afternoon, with the children’s favourites joining a bill including major rock and pop acts such as Razorlight and Frightened Rabbit.

Festival promoter Joe Gibbs said: “We are really thrilled to welcome The Singing Kettle to the show. We have a suspicion that today’s young ‘uns will be joined by yesterday’s kids singing along to these guys.

Other additions to the bill are indie trio Band of Skulls on the Hothouse Stage, and quirky pop act I Am Kloot on the Black Isle Brewery Grassroots Stage.

Both will be making their festival debuts.

The Vatersay Boys will also return to Belladrum, on the Garden Stage, while others added to the line-up are Welsh indie band Catfish and The Bottlemen, cult blues band Nine Below Zero, Glasgow’s Roddy Hart and The Lonesome Fire and young multi-instrumentalist George Barnett.

Highland favourites Torridon and Feis Rois will also appear, with more names expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The festival sold out of weekend and Saturday tickets after the announcement of Tom Jones’s appearance – the singer’s first Highland gig.

About 16,500 people are expected to attend between Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9.

Jones will headline on Friday night, while Razorlight will bring the event to a close on Saturday.
