Ross County defender Ben Gordon knows the Staggies do not have time to feel sorry for themselves as they bid to avoid the relegation play-offs.
The Dingwall men were made to pay for missing an array of opportunities as they lost 1-0 at St Mirren on Saturday. Gregg Wylde’s superb goal 11 minutes from time was enough to win a keenly contested affair.
Now Gordon knows County must focus on tomorrow’s pivotal match against Hibernian at Dingwall.
He said: “We created some great chances in the second half from some good counterattacks and we hit the crossbar twice, so we felt very hard-done by to come away with nothing.
“It was a great goal from Gregg Wylde and Mark Brown, our goalkeeper, said there wasn’t much he could do about it. It was a quality goal and good enough to win any game.
“The manager said straight after the St Mirren game that we can’t dwell on it too much. Home to Hibernian will be a massive game. If we win it then we can go above Hibs, so that is certainly an incentive. It is a huge game and we have to turn our attentions to that straight away.”
The Buddies’ win should be enough to keep them in the Premiership but Gordon knows the Staggies still have plenty of work to do in their final two matches.
Tomorrow’s visit of Hibernian is followed by a trip to Partick Thistle on Saturday and Gordon, the former Chelsea left back, is confident the County squad possesses enough quality to finish above the dreaded 11th place.
He added: “The manager has said to us we have been one of the form sides since January in the bottom six.
“We are looking for two massive performances in the last two games to hopefully stay away from the play-off.
“We will look to make a quick start against Hibernian on Tuesday and put them on the back foot.
“With the way Hibernian have been going since the new year it is a massive opportunity for us and we will be looking to take full advantage of it.”
