A youth hostel is set to open in Skye’s main town for the first time.
The Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA) Hostelling Scotland has announced it will open the building in the centre of Portree from March.
The new Portree Youth Hostel is the renovated former Bayfield Backpackers and adjacent Bayview Guest House and will have up to 18 rooms, providing private rooms, shared accommodation and self-catering facilities.
The opening of the hostel comes from the SYHA’s recent plans to modernise its popular youth tourism destination hostels across the country to meet guests’s expectations.
SYHA chief executive Keith Legge said: “Portree has been on our list for a long time as an ideal location for a youth hostel. We have finally been able to achieve this long term objective whilst we continue to update and reconfigure our hostelling network across Scotland to meet our guests’ expectations. The Isle of Skye is one of the must-visit destinations in Scotland and we look forward to welcoming more guests to this beautiful island.”
