Aberdeen’s out of contract players should discover their fates today as manager Derek McInnes begins planning for next season.
Club captain Russell Anderson, attackers Scott Vernon and Josh Magennis, goalkeeper Nicky Weaver and midfielders Barry Robson and Nicky Low are all out of contract at the end of the month.
Magennis finished last season on loan at Premiership rivals St Mirren and the manager will have to make difficult decisions if he is to further strengthen his squad as he attempts to build on the League Cup win and third-placed finish in the league.
As the players wait for the manager to make his decision, midfielder Ryan Jack believes this season has been the most enjoyable of his career.
The 22-year-old, who made his first team debut against Rangers in September 2010, made 41 appearances.
Although the season ended on a disappointing note with the Dons denied a runners-up place in the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 defeat at home to Motherwell on the final day of the season, Jack believes the campaign exceeded his expectations.
He said: “You can’t beat the feeling of winning a trophy, it was certainly one of the best seasons I have had at the club.
“Qualifying for Europe was a great achievement for the whole squad. I have really enjoyed playing under the manager and with the rest of the team.
“It will be nice to come back after the break looking forward to European football.”
Jack was quick to praise the impact McInnes has made in his first full season at Pittodrie.
The Aberdeen manager’s work at Pittodrie has not gone unnoticed, having been named the Scottish Football Writers Association and PFA Scotland manager of the year.
Jack added: “It was no surprise he won the awards. He has been recognised for doing a fantastic job with the squad.”
