The family of a Tain accountant who died after an accident on his mobility scooter paid tribute to him yesterday.
Robert Beveridge, 79, was “a very lively character” who “loved to make people laugh”, according to his son Keith.
The retired accountant died after being involved in a crash on his vehicle in Castle Street in the Ross-shire town on Monday.
Widower Mr Beveridge, who was known as Bob, was a well-known figure in Tain, where he lived since the late 1950s with his wife Agnes, who was known as Nan.
He had moved to Tain after leaving Kirkcaldy High School and completing his accountancy qualifications with a firm in Glasgow.
He joined Tain firm AW Gray and Butler and became a partner with the firm in the 1960s, a position he held until his retirement at 65. However, he continued to help out with work for a few clients, working at least one day a week right up until his death.
He had three children with Nan, two sons Keith and Colin and a daughter Kathryn. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr Beveridge was a well-known figure in the town as a player and committee member at Tain Golf Club. He was also a keen angler who spent much of his time fishing for salmon and trout across the north.
Son Colin said: “He kept very busy right up until the end. Even though he wasn’t able to play golf any more he still went up for his lunch every day and enjoyed the company.”
Staff at AW Gray and Butler have also paid tribute to their former colleague. Senior partner Jim Robertson had worked with Mr Beveridge since he joined the business in 1982. Mr Robertson said: “Bob was a real old school gentleman who was a joy to work with and to fish with as well. I have never heard anyone with a bad word to say about Bob.”
No date has been set for Mr Beveridge’s funeral.
