Plans to turn a former courthouse into offices for Highland Council and the police have been approved.
Kingussie’s former court building on High Street will be brought back into use as part of a £2.1million redevelopment, after the plans were approved by the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
The proposals mean 33 staff from Highland Council’s three separate offices in the town will be brought together under the one roof.
The council service point will also be housed in the courthouse building, as well as a police office.
Councillor Dave Fallows, who represents Badenoch and Strathspey, said: “This is a great boost for Kingussie – we are looking forward to the revitalisation of the council’s office and the new partnership arrangement with Police Scotland which will make life easier for locals wanting to access the council and police.
“Bringing this iconic Kingussie building back into use is an important plank in the efforts being made not just by the council, but by the community too to regenerate the economic life of the town. I look forward to completion and the improvements that will result.”
Eleanor Mackintosh, the CNPA’s planning convener, said: “It’ll be great to see a historic building like Kingussie’s courthouse being brought back into use, safeguarding its future.
“We’re very supportive of developments that regenerate previously used land or buildings and welcome the fact that this development is set to benefit the community.”
