A unique piece of sporting memorabilia has found a new home at a hotel in the north Highlands.
Andrew Mowat, who manages the Seaview Hotel in John O’Groats, recently bought a piano painted in Aberdeen FC colours for the restaurant.
The 37-year-old could not resist snapping up the 1930s treasure from fellow Dons fan Kenny Stewart, who told the Press and Journal last month he was reluctantly selling it because his family were moving house.
Mr Mowat bought the piano for £820, and transported it from Forres to his restaurant, where it is already attracting attention from guests.
Anyone can play the instrument, although Mr Mowat is hoping to get a player during dinner service in the evening.
He said the piano has been a “great talking point” during its first week in the restaurant.
He added: “There was a couple of guys who were playing it this morning and we have had a guy in for his dinner who was playing as well.
“There has been quite a bit of excitement around it with the locals.”
In 2004, staff at former Aberdeen music store Bruce Millers spent six weeks stripping down the piano, fitting panels and spray-painting the case in the club’s colours.
“It was then put up for auction to raise money for a children’s charity.
The instrument was signed at the time by several former Aberdeen players, including Duncan Shearer and Joe Harper.
The top and bottom panels have now been replaced with perspex and light up so that the mechanical insides of the instrument are visible. The instrument was originally made by noted manufacturers Spence of London.
