The entire crash site spanned just over half a mile on the route between Arbroath and Salmondsmuir. Four people were taken to hospital as a result of the crashes as emergency services closed off the road and worked their way through the chaos. It is understood that low lying sun was one of the main causes behind the sequence of crashes, blinding drivers as they drove home.
