Woman killed in Shetland car crash

A woman has reportedly died as a result of an accident on a Shetland road earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the one-car crash shortly on the A970 at Lerwick shortly after 11.30pm.

Police, two ambulances and two fire engines from Lerwick were all at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the fire and rescue service confirmed there was one fatality as a result of the accident.

It is being reported locally that the female driver of the car was killed when her car left the road.

Another person has since been taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital, where they are being treated for minor injuries.

The road is closed between the Weisdale and South Nesting junctions with local diversions in place.
