The final candidate in the running to replace late Buckie councillor Joe Mackay has been announced.
Agriculture worker Tim Eagle will stand as the Conservative candidate in next month’s by-election, which comes after Mr Mackay was killed when he was run over by his own mobility scooter.
Mr Eagle, 35, lives with his wife Rachel, a doctor, and their two young children in Drybridge.
The couple run a small flock of sheep, grow their own fruit and vegetables and have chickens and ducks.
Mr Eagle said: “Joe Mackay was a great servant to Buckie and it’s very sad that we are having this by-election, but I am standing as I believe I can take a new perspective to Moray Council.
“I have a young family and am looking at my children’s future education, where we take them for leisure activities and how we can encourage more business and enterprise to this part of Moray.
“I have also worked with many local farmers in the surrounding area so I know the rural economy of the ward. I studied as part of my postgraduate courses in rural development so I have an insight in the issues which can affect these areas.”
Nominations closed yesterday, and Mr Eagle joins independent candidate Norman Calder and SNP representative Sonya Warren on the ballot.
Voters have until Tuesday, March 10, to register or they have until the next day to apply for a postal vote.
There will be eight polling stations set up for the March 26 vote at Buckpool Golf Club, Buckie Methodist Hall, Buckie North Church Hall, Buckie Royal British Legion Hall, Portessie Methodist Hall and Findochty Town Hall.
More information on registering to vote is available at www.votemoray.org or by calling the electoral registration office on 01343 541203.
