Motorists are being advised that a north-east road will be closed for longer than first expected.
Aberdeenshire Council closed off the A920 Oldmeldrum to Ellon road on February 9 for resurfacing works, and expected to reopen it yesterday.
But during the work, engineers discovered repairs to the edge of the road need to be urgently carried out.
It could now be the middle of the next week before the stretch of road between Oldmeldrum and Pitmedden is reopened.
A spokeswoman for the council said: “Whilst carrying out the resurfacing works, our roads team found unforeseen deterioration at the road’s edge which will now be repaired as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
“The situation will be reviewed this week, however it is likely that the closure will extend to the middle of next week, subject to weather conditions.”
Diversions are in place, taking motorists to Tarves and back onto the A920 at the Pitmedden crossroads.
The route is about 14 miles long, compared to the 10-mile Oldmeldrum-Ellon run.
