A Spanish fisherman had to be airlifted to a Highland hospital this morning after suffering head injuries on a fishing boat near the Isle of Lewis.
Stornoway Coastguard were called to the Akillamendi Berria, 60 miles north of the Butt of Lewis last night but could not evacuate the fisherman until this morning.
The coastguard were informed of the incident at around 10pm last night but decided it was too dangerous to attempt evacuation because of the dark conditions.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokeswoman said: “A Spanish fisherman had head injuries, we airlifted him and transferred him to Western Isles Hospital.
“Last night the rescue helicopter went out and again this morning.”
