Residents in a Moray town have condemned vandals who defaced a school and a historic clock tower with obscene graffiti.
The crude slogans and references to drugs were spray-painted in the Balvenie Street, MacDuff Place, York Street and Clock Tower areas of Dufftown.
Mortlach Primary School was also targeted in the spree.
Moray Council workers were drafted in to remove the graffiti and police launched an investigation.
A police spokesman said last night: “We have made numerous inquiries locally, but so far they have yet to furnish anything that would give us an idea as to who may be responsible for these offences.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information on the spate of vandalism to come forward.
Speyside and Glenlivet councillor Mike McConnachie said: “Whoever it was must have been a reasonable age, as you can tell how tall they were from the height of the graffiti.
Outraged residents took to social media to deplore those responsible for the graffiti.
Laurie Robertson wrote: “I’ve never seen graffiti like it in Dufftown. Hope they catch them, I feel really sorry for the folk that had it on their front doors.”
Dee Thomson added: “It’s an absolute disgrace. Swear words written all over the town and primary school.”
Pat McPherson said: “I’m Dufftown born and bred and it’s the first time I have ever seen anything like it, hope they get whoever did this.”
Historic Dufftown clock tower was built in 1839.
It was originally the town jail, later the burgh chambers and now houses the town’s tourist information centre.
Police have urged anyone with information on the vandalisms to contact them on 101.
