A Scottish fishing boat skipper has reported an alleged terrifying brush with a submarine off the Outer Hebrides.
Angus Macleod said he and his four crew were “extremely lucky” after the incident in which his net was continually dragged in front of his 62-feet trawler.
Father-of-two Mr Macleod, 46, from the isle of Barra has now lodged an incident report with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
The crew were fishing aboard the 41-year-old wooden Aquarius about ten miles east of the Butt of Lewis in 360 feet of water for haddock, monkfish and skate on Tuesday.
They had two nets out when at around 7pm, and at about 11.30pm the boat suddenly slowed down.
The port net suddenly moved in front of the boat, while the other continued to lay astern.
