A plane has been forced to return to Aberdeen International Airport today after an engine failure.
The 9.15am Eastern Airways service was travelling to Wick when it experienced problems with one of its two engines while flying over the Banff area.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen International Airport said: “The flight has eight people on board and is on its way back to Aberdeen.”
The airline tweeted at around 10am that they had landed safely and were taxing back to the terminal.
Five police cars were on the runway at around 10am waiting for the Eastern Airways aircraft.
A spokeswoman for the police said it was routine practice for emergency services to be called if there were any concerning circumstances.
A spokesman for Eastern Airways said: “The captain operating flight T3 561 from Aberdeen to Wick returned to Aberdeen shortly after departure due to a problem relating to one of the aircraft’s two engines.
“As a precautionary measure, the captain decided to shut down the affected engine.
“The Jetstream 41, with five passengers and three crew on board, landed safely at 9.56am. After vacating the runway the aircraft taxied to its parking stand where passengers disembarked via the aircraft steps.
“As part of our procedures, we have launched an investigation.”
