A children’s charity has received £57,000 to continue a domestic abuse support programme in Moray.
The Children’s First organisation’s Stronger Safer Families for Women initiative is now safeguarded until 2016 as a result of the Scottish Government funding.
The project helps mothers and carers to make sense of, and recover from, abuse.
The charity’s Chris Lewis said: “The impact that abuse has on women and children can be devastating.
“It is crucial that women are able to access the support they need to recover from what has happened and be able to care for and protect their children.
“This funding will allow us to continue to do this important work.”
The project works with women caring for children from pregnancy to 18 years, and includes those who experienced abuse in their own childhoods as well as in adult relationships.
Women can refer themselves to the service or be referred by local health and social work professionals.
The funding comes from the Scottish Government’s violence against women and girls fund.
