Rush hour commuters were delayed along the A96 this evening after a fire broke out at a disused chip shop in Moray.
Three fire crews were called to the Bervie Chipper building at Forres around 4.40pm, leading to disruption for motorists before the all-clear was given shortly after 5pm.
Two police vehicles attended and officers helped direct traffic as smoke from the fire was blowing over both carriageways on the main Inverness to Aberdeen road.
Early reports suggest the blaze was caused by an electrical fault.
Two appliances from Forres and one from Elgin were called to the incident.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews were called out at 4.42pm and we received word the fire was under control at 5.09pm.
“There were four sets of breathing apparatus used, one hose-reel jet and one jet.”
A Police Scotland spokesman added: “At 4.55pm we were advised by Fire and Rescue that there was a fire at the Bervie Chipper, and we supported them by providing two police units.
“The road was closed for a short period to allow the smoke to dissipate.”
