The Earl and Countess of Wessex are to visit the Outer Hebrides today5.
The earl is visiting the Hebrides in his capacity as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
It is customary for the Lord High Commissioner to undertake visits to organisations and bodies representing different aspects of Scottish life.
During their visit to Stornoway, the royal couple will officially open The Shed, a new youth and family community centre at the rear of Martin’s Memorial Church.
They will also visit the town hall where they will meet participants and volunteers involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, of which the earl is a trustee, as well as visiting the Harris Tweed Authority and meeting representatives of the Stornoway Historical Society.
The earl and countess will then travel to an engagement in Castlebay on Barra where they will meet representatives of several local youth and community groups.
