A group that supports independence for Shetland has called on local residents to spoil their ballot papers on May 7.
The Sovereign Nation of Shetland (SNS) has also published its own manifesto for the Westminster election, even though it does not recognise the UK as having any authority on the islands.
Stuart Hill, of the group, said: “We have something to offer that none of the political parties does.
“None of them can offer an extra £76million per year into the Shetland economy, half price petrol and diesel, 20% cheaper goods and services, interest-free loans and a quantum leap in access to the democratic process.
“The government, whether it be Scotland or the UK, has always seen Shetland as a cash-cow. It’s time it stopped.”
The group is not standing at the election, but Mr Hill urged supporters to spoil their ballot by scoring a line through the boxes and writing “SNS” across the paper.
The candidates who are standing are Danus Skene for the SNP, Alistair Carmichael for the Liberal Democrats, Donald Cameron for the Conservatives, Gerry McGarvey for Labour and Robert Smith for Ukip.
