A volunteer squadron from RAF Lossiemouth took on opposition from across the world in a gruelling test of military skills.
Reservist gunners from 2622 Highland Squadron of the Auxiliary Air Force Regiment defeated 45 other reservist teams at the contest in Liverpool.
Competitors pitted their wits against one another over a wild stretch of beaches, dunes and woodlands as they demonstrated the abilities required in operations around the world.
Teams showed their prowess at 16 different military skills over a two-day period, including fire fighting, battlefield first aid, pistol shooting, grenade throwing and mine awareness.
And as if that wasn’t tough enough, there was also the small matter of an assault course to complete.
The squadron’s commanding officer, Andy Liggat, from Grantown-on-Spey, praised the team who brought the Brig Matthew Trophy back to the Moray base.
He said: “To win this competition against top reservist teams from all three services and overseas teams is an incredible achievement.
“The effort that the guys put in throughout the weekend was outstanding, and to win the trophy against some very highly competitive opponents just goes to prove the calibre, dedication and commitment displayed by our gunners.”
The volunteer squadron consisted of Sean Keenan, from Elgin, Andy Harrold, from Fochabers, David Ralph, from Inverness and Jack Lyons, from South Queensferry.
The annual Exercise Altcar Challenge attracted competitors from Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, France and Holland and involved RAF squadrons, teams from the Royal Marine Commandos and various Army regiments.
