Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick is to head delegation of MSPs on visit to Orkney.
Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick is to head delegation of MSPs on visit to Orkney.

Orkney residents will have the chance to meet Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick and a selection of MSPs next month.

It will be part of one of the regular “parliament days” started in 2012 to inspire people around Scotland to take an interest in and engage with Holyrood and its work.

Ms Marwick is due to take part in a series of engagements, including hosting a community networking lunch, on June 8.

She will be joined by members of the rural affairs, climate change and environment committee, which also has its own packed agenda.

Committee members will split into three groups to meet a range of people and business leaders and learn about the issues which affect them.

The committee will also tackle the issue of land reform when it hosts a public meeting in Kirkwall Grammar School at 6pm.

Chairman Rob Gibson said: “Members of the committee want to understand your opinions and encourage positive action on your behalf.

“The public meeting is also an opportunity for you to give your views and quiz MSPs and a range of organisations on the land reform issues that matter to you.

“Who should own Scotland’s land? How should Scotland’s land be owned and managed to benefit us all? And should some land use take priority over others?

“These are all vital questions that we would like to tackle in Orkney.”
