A star of the Great British Bake Off will be rolling up his sleeves to launch a festival celebrating the benefits of part-time learning in Aberdeen next month.
Norman Calder will be sharing his top tips at the Taste for Learning Festival organised by North East Scotland College.
He will launch the festival at the college campus at Loch Street, Aberdeen, on June 2, where he will demonstrate how to make his famous shortbread.
Mr Calder, who came runner up in last year’s Great British Bake Off, said: “I’m really excited to be part of Get a Taste for Learning. You’re never too old to learn, and the programme of events that the college is running offers really good opportunities for people to try something new.”
Mr Calder is a former Merchant Navy radio operator, recently entered local politics and stood in the Buckie by-election earlier this year. However, his hopes of a town hall seat flopped after he was beaten by the SNP candidate.
As well as culinary courses, the college will also be offering taster sessions of other courses at public libraries and college centres across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire in June to encourage part-time learning.
Duncan Abernethy, the head of business and community development at the college said: “North East Scotland college is launching its Get a Taste for Learning initiative to help promote lifelong learning across Aberdeen City and Shire.
“It’s never too late to learn, and we hope that this initiative will give people a taste of what is on offer at the college throughout the year.”
The week-long Taste of Learning festival will run from June 13 to 20, and will also feature workshops and talks about learning subjects such as languages, painting, and photography.
