Donations sought to rebuild historic Ballater museum

A Deeside community is seeking donations for those affected by a blaze which destroyed one of its most historic buildings.
Aberdeenshire councillor Geva Blackett is aiming to raise £8,000 to support he businesses and families left out of pocket following the fire at the Old Royal Station in Ballater.
The building, which housed a railway museum, restaurant, visitor centre and businesses, was described as the “centrepiece” of the village.
Aberdeenshire Council last week pledged to rebuild the structure following the fire on May 12.
Mrs Blackett launched the appeal in conjunction with the Ballater and Crathie Community Council and Ballater Business Association (BBA).
The SNP councillor said: “Our aim is to help the businesses get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
Chairman of the BBA, Richard Watts, said: “This may help the businesses affected to secure alternative premises, help cover delays in insurance pay outs, to purchase new equipment or just help to keep the businesses afloat, as their future is still unclear and in the balance.”
