Pupils at a Moray primary school began their weekend early yesterday after nearby waterworks cut off the supply – for the second time this month.
The water supply to Logie Primary School at Dunphail, near Forres, was first cut on Wednesday, May 6, as a result of nearby Scottish Water project – leaving teachers with no option but to send pupils home.
And yesterday morning a different fault in the water system brought the teaching day to an early end again.
Scottish Water said: “An issue with a valve in the water network in the Logie area resulted in a temporary loss of supply to the primary school.
“The cause of the interruption to supply was due to a lack of water getting into the tank which feeds the building. This resulted in very low pressure to the school.
“Our local network operator checked the valve and after making some alterations was able to restore full flow to the tank and the school.
“We apologise for any inconvenience to local people as a result of this fault in our network.”
Earlier this month Scottish Water confirmed a planned power cut caused the pumping station that serves Logie Primary to stop working, and blamed communication problems for the lack of a backup electrical supply.
A school spokeswoman explained that, with no running water, teachers had no choice but to send children home.
