Cinema goers in Ellon are in for some swashbuckling fun this weekend.

Simon Newton, a stunt double for Johnny Depp in the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, will be in the town for the pirate-themed fundraising day in aid of Ellon Cinema.

The group, who recently secured enough cash to buy their own projector to ensure residents can enjoy the latest blockbusters sooner, has organised the fun day which will run at Victoria Hall on Sunday from 11am-4pm.

As well as the chance to meet look-a-like Mr Newton, there will be a raffle, art activities, face painting, a pirate tattoo bar and Caribbean food, cakes and spices.

Attendees are being urged to dress as a pirate, and the most impressive costume will be honoured by Captain Jack Sparrow himself.

The activities begin early on in the day with the Captain Sparrow Hunt the Pirate event, where kids will be asked to find eight mini pirates in the shop windows of Ellon.

Forms are available from Grays or J&K Shoes for £1.

Event organiser Vicki Morgan said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce we will be visited by the world’s number one Captain Jack Sparrow look-a-like, Simon Newton.

“Simon has doubled for Johnny Depp in The Pirates of the Caribbean films and has his look, voice and mannerism down to a tee.

“When people see him they won’t believe its not Mr Depp himself.”

Mr Newton will arrive at about noon. All proceeds will towards the Ellon Cinema Fund.
