Elgin Town Hall will play host to a production from a galaxy far, far away tomorrow evening when a science fiction musical begins a run at the venue.

Final preparations are now under way for Moray Community Theatre’s debut production, Return to the Forbidden Planet.

The show’s producer James Farquhar has worked on legendary West End musicals in his career and has flown in a technical crew from Zurich to help stage the musical.

He said: “The show is an ambitious undertaking but it seems to all be coming together now.

“As this is our first outing we are keen to establish ourselves as a quality company, and I will be using my professional experience to hopefully elevate it to a high standard.”

“I’m hoping to bring a West End level of show to Elgin Town Hall.”

As well as featuring local talent such as Elgin 19-year-old Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Sean Ellis, the production will star American stage and TV actor David Chrisman.

Over a long career, Mr Chrisman has acted in shows such as Murder, She Wrote and Dallas and has performed in musicals like Camelot, Cabaret and South Pacific.

The show will run from Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Later this month Robert Burns: The Musical, a play based on the life of Scotland’s most famous poet, will come to Findhorn.

The show, devised by Michael Jackson and David Gest originally, premiered at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre on January 25, and received a 10-minute standing ovation.

Now Moray-based production company, Rock Academy, is keen to repeat its success with a show on home soil.

The show will take place at 7.30pm at Findhorn’s Universal Hall on Saturday, June 15.
