Nearly £1.7million of improvements will be carried out on a Highland road over the next six months.
The schemes scheduled for the A87 Invermoriston-Kyle road include repairs to the deteriorating road surface, plus the installation of safety fencing and verge works.
Route tours were carried out by Bear Scotland earlier this year to identify areas in need of repair following the harsh winter conditions which affected the road surfacing.
Improvements began in April at Tilhill and also at the Skye/Lochalsh boundary, with further work planned in short phases on the route throughout the summer.
Resurfacing is currently being undertaken near Cluanie Inn, moving through Glen Shiel in June.
Following this, the A87 north of Kyleakin to Oblusa and the Portree Cattle Pens will have a section of road resurfaced in June and July.
Larger scale resurfacing works will also be undertaken at Scalpaidh Bay and South of Sligachan completing the programme, weather permitting, by the end of July.
Further works are planned later in the year, these will see the replacement of the safety fencing carried out at Loch Cluanie and a further phase of verge works undertaken at Breakish.
Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s north west representative, said: “Following the review of the whole of the North West trunk road network after the winter we considered it essential that a major programme be brought forward on the A87 both on the mainland and on Skye.
“These works will greatly improve the condition of the road surface along the A87, but also making it more resilient to weather conditions in future years.
“Whilst no major delays are expected during the works, we would ask that motorists adhere to the temporary speed limits which will be in place for their own safety as well as that of our workforce.”
