An Aberdeenshire farm will host an open day this weekend to let visitors get a taste of working life in the countryside.
Castleton Fruit Farm, in Laurencekirk, is expected to welcome hundreds of people on Open Farm Sunday – and will show them how food goes from the farm to the fridge.
The Howe O’ the Mearns farm, run by Ross Mitchell, produces strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries, and has been a supplier to Marks and Spencers (M&S) for a decade.
A host of activities are being held at the farm, including tractor and trailer rides, a farm tours and the chance to see a range of vintage and modern tractors and farming machinery.
There will also be a bouncy castle and face-painting for youngsters.
Mr Mitchell, 34, who is managing director of the farm, said: “We’re really looking forward to opening our gates for this year’s Open Farm Sunday event.
“It’s a great day out for the whole family and an opportunity for visitors to see first-hand the efforts that go into helping people eat their five a day.”
M&S agronomist, Andy Mitchell, said: “Our great British suppliers really are some of the best, and we’re looking forward to giving people the chance to see how a modern-day farm works, and to see how their food comes from the field and straight into M&S stores across the country.”
The open day is free and takes place between 10am and 4pm.
The Store, at Foveran, is also taking part in the open day. Farmer Andrew Booth and his team will welcome visitors from 11am-3pm, and there will be sheep shearing demonstrations, tractor and trailer rides and the chance to make your own sausages.
There will also be farmers’ market to showcase some of the area’s producers.
