Three teenage girls have appeared in court accused of carrying out a campaign of abuse against police officers over the course of almost a year.
Seventeen-year-olds Ashleigh McBain and Rachael McCarthy and 16-year-old Michele Donaldson, all appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday facing a total of 16 charges between them.
The girls, who would have been 14 and 15 at the time of the alleged offences, are accused of vandalising a number of police cars as well as throwing stones at officers.
On two occasions it is claimed that all three of them threw stones with such force at marked police cars that they smashed the windows.
McBain, McCarthy and Donaldson, of 141 Manor Avenue, Aberdeen, are also said to have loitered around Danestone Circle, close to Manor Park Police Office, on various occasions between July 2013 and June 2014.
It is claimed that during this time hey repeatedly shouted, swore, utter abuse and threw stones at officers there.
McBain, of 731 Great Northern Road, Aberdeen and McCarthy, of 357 Hilton Drive Aberdeen, are also accused of acting in a threatening and abusive manner at both the Bon Accord Centre and Aberdeen Grammar School.
It is further alleged that McBain made a false emergency call to the police on April 12 last year in an attempt to waste police time. She is also accused of directing abuse at the telephone operator on the same occasion.
All three girls are also said to have called the police “for no valid reason” on April 21 that year.
The court heard that the charges the girls had been facing were originally brought on solemn proceedings however had now been reduced to summary.
Solicitors acting on behalf of the teens asked for the matter to be continued without plea for further investigations to be carried out into the case. They will return to court later this month.
