A restaurant boss has vowed to be back in business soon after a fire which badly damaged the kitchen.
Emergency services were called to the Adelphi Kitchen in Aberdeen early yesterday after a blaze broke out on the ground floor.
Three crews were sent the business, which is just off Union Street, at about 1.30am and worked for 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.
The team also inspected nearby properties to ensure the fire had not spread.
But although the fire was put out quickly, it caused extensive damage to the restaurant’s kitchen – forcing staff to close their doors.
Managing director and executive head chef Chris Tonner said: “We are all saddened at the news but feeling grateful that no one was hurt as a result of this incident.
“Due to damage in the kitchen we will have to close The Adelphi but I would like to reassure our loyal customers that we will reopen very soon.”
Mr Tonner added the restaurant was fully booked for the coming weeks, but assured customers staff would be contacting them to arrange an alternative.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
Mr Tonner added: “I would like to thank the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for their speedy response and we will work with them in the coming days to conclude their investigation into the incident.”
A fire service spokesman said: “Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished a fire at the Adelphi Kitchen restaurant in Aberdeen in the early hours of yesterday morning.
“The stop message came back at 1.50pm.
“No one was injured and no one required to be evacuated.”
It is the second time firefighters have been called to the restaurant since it opened last year.
In April last year, three crews spent 90 minutes dealing with a fire at the premises. Nobody was hurt, and the business opened a day later.
The restaurant has recently been shortlisted for the Northern Star Business Award in customer service.
