A young boy born with a rare illness will be the guest of honour at a fundraiser in Aberdeen this weekend.
Seven-year-old Alfie Milne has lymphangiomatosis, which causes benign tumours to grow and spread through his body.
The youngster, from Culter, is the only person in Scotland with the incurable disease – meaning he had to go to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London every six months for check-ups.
Now staff at the Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centre have decided to raise money for the hospital as a way of acknowledging the work they do for Alfie.
Money will also be donated to Clan Cancer Support at the One Great Day event.
On Saturday, the centre will be hosting a range of activities including a bike challenge, a bouncy castle, giveaways and various different food tastings.
Alfie and his family – who set up the Alfie Milne Trust in 2011 to raise awareness of the disease and fund research – will also be in attendance.
Store manager Craig Stevenson said: “This year we’re delighted to be supporting Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and Clan.
“It’s great that Alfie and his family have been able to come along to officially open what is sure to be a fun and friendly day of activities.
“There’ll be something for all the family to enjoy, with a bouncy castle, food tasting, as well as a number of children’s characters appearing throughout the day.
“If you have some spare time on Saturday, we’d be delighted to welcome you along to support two extremely worthwhile causes.”
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at Clan, said she was looking forward to the fun day, and would be “thrilled” if shoppers and families dropped by.
She added: “Clan has been selected as Bon Accord & St Nicholas’ chosen charity for the year and we’re really looking forward to this weekend’s day of fundraising.
“We’ve had a relationship with the centre for a number of years now and its shoppers have always been so supportive of Clan and its work in the north-east.”
