An Aberdeenshire school has opened its upgraded playground after being awarded £10,000 for improvements.
Banchory-Devenick Primary School was given the sum by Awards for All Scotland and officially opened the updated play area last week.
Around 56 youngsters can now take advantage of the new and improved playground.
The area now includes a play lodge, tipi, story-telling chair, music and friendship area, mini beast exploration table, planters and benches.
Parents first inquired about improving the playground in August 2013 after the appointment of head teacher Michelle Watson.
She said: “This has only been possible due to the positive community action Banchory-Devenick has provided. We have an incredibly supportive parent group who always come up with new and inventive ideas for fundraising.
“Now our children can play in a playground, which has a creative space with musical instruments, a quiet space for reflection, a friendship area to communicate with each other, a physical area to exercise and keep healthy in, a wildlife area for bio-diversity and a vegetable garden for sustainability.”
MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, Stuart Donaldson, attended the opening.
He said: “I am delighted to have been invited along to the opening of Banchory-Devenick Primary School’s new playground.
“It is great to see the money that has been raised by parents and pupils and the award from the Big Lottery Fund has gone towards something that the pupils have created and will be of great benefit to them.”
