Gin enthusiasts will be in high spirits at a Moray pipe band extravaganza this weekend, as organisers have dedicated a special bar to homegrown versions of the popular tipple.
Saturday’s Piping at Forres event will feature two locally produced gins made at Gordon Castle and Carounn, in Speyside as well as other Scottish names.
Another culinary highlight of the day will be the annual tattie scone making championship contest judged by the owner of Skye’s Three Chimneys restaurant, Shirley Spear.
There will be an added youth heat at this year’s event, with aspiring cooks making their own efforts at 3pm.
Pipers who have built up a thirst during the competitions will be rewarded with a hamper containing a variety of Speyside malts.
And even the four-legged bagpipe fans will be catered for, with a “pooch’s corner” offering treats and water.
The competition is being staged by Forres Events Ltd. The group’s marketing and sponsorship director David Urquhart said the food on offer would help make the day a memorable one for families.
He said: “We have introduced the Scottish gin bar to mark the explosion of the number of gins being produced in Scotland.
“We strive each year to make Piping At Forres not just about excellent piping but also to make it a great family day out, which celebrates Forres, Moray and Scotland.”
This Saturday’s Piping at Forres European Pipe Band Championship competition will feature more than 100 pipe bands.
