Part of an Orkney beach has been cordoned off after a woman was left fearing for her life when she got caught in quick sand.
The woman was walking along Skaill Beach, near Stromness, last night when she got into trouble in the sand.
Panic quickly set in and her friend desperately called 999, the Coastguard arrived at the scene quickly, however, the woman had managed to free herself.
The area has now been closed off, with a Coastguard spokesman confirming: “The beach has been cordoned off and the council alerted, hopefully they will be able to deal with it today.”
