Police are investigating the sudden death of a 32-year-old woman at a property in New Elgin.
Police received a report of an incident in the Anderson Drive area at around 7.20pm last night.
Numerous police officers and vehicles attended the scene immediately, with police tape ensuring the surrounding area was cordoned off.
Police remained at the scene all night and numerous officers are still standing guard of a property on the residential street.
Door-to-door inquiries have also commenced.
Police lock down Elgin street following “sudden death”
A police spokesman said: “Police received a report of the death of a 32-year-old woman within a property in the Anderson Drive area of Elgin around 7.20pm on Thursday, November 16.
“The death is being treated as unexplained pending a post-mortem examination and next of kin have been informed.
“Officers remain at the scene and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
‘Scary to think it’s so close’
Neighbours say they have been left in shock at the death.
One said she thought there had been an accident when she first noticed the police activity last night.
“When I went upstairs for my bath at 8pm and shut the blinds I saw blue flashing lights and the road cordoned off.
“It’s scary to think it’s so close,” she said.
Local councillor John Divers added: “I heard about the incident this morning when the police contacted me, as they did with other local members to make them aware.
“I know very little. All I know is a 32-year-old woman has passed away unexplained and CID is here – read into that what you want.
“She had so much of her life left.”
