A trio of fund-raisers are certainly not letting the grass grow under their feet – as they journey across the UK on their lawn mowers.
Tony Dwight, Darren Whitehead and Paul Tindall, all from England, visited Moray on the latest stage of their ambitious trek yesterday.
The three men are travelling 2,200 miles around the country to raise money to help combat Crohns disease and colitis.
Their journey started on Saturday in the south of England and – travelling 300 miles over 12 hours every day – they reached Fort William and Inverness on Monday before spending the night in Nairn.
The trip was temporarily thrown into jeopardy when one mower encountered difficulties, but a Forres garden machinery firm leapt into action to arrange emergency repairs and the men were able to resume their mission yesterday morning.
The trio passed through Moray before venturing towards Dundee and Edinburgh via the Cairngorms.
They are hoping to complete their trek, dubbed “the lawn way round”, on Friday.
The damaged mower was fixed by W Thomson Saw Services of Forres,
Manager Jack Cumnock said he was happy to do the work for free. He said: “The guys got in touch on Monday as they were concerned they might not be able to source a replacement axle.
“But I managed to source them one in the afternoon, and met with them in Nairn at night to repair the broken mower and service the others.”
Mr Whitehead, who suffers from colitis, decided to embark on the current crusade in aid of the Crohn’s and Colitis UK group.
Around 300,000 people in the UK suffer from inflammatory bowel disease – with Crohn’s and colitis the two most prevalent conditions.
