Moray Council has announced the details of a new housing unit which is being created to replace an axed care home.
Councillors recently agreed to cease operations at the heavily-criticised Maybank home, on St Catherine’s Road in Forres, to pave the way for a modern £2.5million complex.
Yesterday it was revealed that the new site at Garmouth Road in Lhanbryde will comprise of 10 bungalows, providing a mix of permanent homes and respite accommodation for adults with autism and other difficulties.
The properties will be purpose-built to suit the needs of individual occupants.
Deputy chairwoman of Moray Council’s health and social care services committee Fiona Murdoch praised the development.
She said: “This is welcome for the clients and the people who work with them.
“Maybank was a completely inadequate building for the type of care that’s needed for these people.
“This new facility should bring a huge improvement in the quality of life for everyone involved.”
Seven of the bungalows will provide permanent residences, one will be used for respite accommodation, one will be communal and the other will serve as an office for staff.
Health and social care staff are working with the families of individuals who might benefit from moving into a property at Lhanbryde.
Locals can learn more about the development during a drop-in event at the village’s community centre on Wednesday, August 12, from 4pm to 7pm.
