The tough mudder craze reached Speyside last night as a mini version of the endurance event was staged at Dufftown.
Young fitness fanatics tested their mettle by undertaking a gruelling obstacle course – and raised money for charity in the process.
More than 100 children took part in the first ever Mortlach Mini Mudder event, at Tininver Park in Dufftown.
The event raised more than £1,000 for local childcare group The Cabin.
Speyside mum Candice Geddes decided to stage the event to give local youngsters – including her own daughters, six-year-old Iris and four-year-old Holly – a taste of the action.
She said: “My husband and I have both competed in tough mudder events in the past, and we thought it would be nice to give the children here something different to do.
“All ages took part, from nursery to high school and there were parts of the challenge suitable for all.
“The whole night was brilliant and we’ve had lots of people asking if we’ll do it again so hopefully it can become an annual event.”
During the challenge, children had to climb over bales of hay and whisky casks, clamber up waterslides and scramble through rope netting.
Some older participants took the challenge a step further by following the obstacle course with a mile-long run through nearby woods.
The Mortlach Mini Mudder was part of Dufftown’s gala week celebrations.
Typically, tough mudder entrants complete 10 to 12-mile military-style obstacle courses designed to test their mental and physical strength.
