The victims of a two-car smash on a busy Moray road yesterday morning were lucky to emerge unscathed from their mangled vehicles.
The accident happened at around 8.30am on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, near the Kintessack junction at Brodie.
It is believed some of the passengers were tourists visiting the area for the ongoing World Orienteering Championships, which yesterday held challenges at Darnaway Castle, near Forres.
The collision involved an Audi A4 and a Mini First hatchback, both of which suffered significant damage.
The ambulance service said casualties were treated at the scene but no-one was taken to hospital.
Traffic was delayed for about two hours while the road near Forres was cleared by fire crews.
Police later said no one was seriously hurt in the collision.
Representatives from the orienteering championships confirmed none of the athletes taking part were involved in the crash, but said thousands of supporters were also visiting the area for the event.
A police spokesman added: “The crash happened at about 8.30am, and no serious injuries were reported.
“One carriageway was blocked while the area was made safe, and at 10.30am the road was cleared.”
A spokeswoman for the fire service added: “Two appliances from Forres attended but the vehicles were safe and everybody had got out of their cars by the time they got there.
“They just helped to mop up spillages to ensure the road was safe to be reopened.”
