Buccaneers will descend on a Moray marine centre this weekend as the venue marks the end of the school summer holidays with a pirate fun day.
The Spey Bay Whale and Dolphin Centre will welcome costumed youngsters for a day of pirate-inspired games and activities – including a quest to find Blackbeard’s hidden treasure – on Sunday.
The venue’s events volunteer, Carolin Speicher, said: “Summer has been fantastically busy here.
“There is no better place to spend the season than watching the largest bottlenose dolphins in the world, and the amazing ospreys flying and hunting over the river here.
“We are really excited for Pirate Day, especially for all the little pirates showing off their styles.”
Would-be Jack Sparrows will also design fearsome flags on the day, create their own pirate hooks and have their faces painted to resemble that of a salty seafarer.
The best costumed youngsters will also take part in a fancy dress competition.
The event will celebrate the region’s own piratical past, marking the reign of fearsome Viking chieftain Thorstein the Red over the Moray Firth.
The legendary warlord was born in 850AD approximately, and waged seafaring campaigns across Moray and the north of Scotland until he was killed around 1890.
The fun will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm and admission is free.
