Local authority officials are considering a series of options to try to repair the roof of Aberdeen’s historic Town House.
The Press and Journal revealed last week that the council was embroiled in a dispute with its contractors over the £1.2million refurbishment of the 150-year-old building.
Crews at the site have found timber in the iconic clock tower roof has been “severely affected by rot”, leaving it in a “potentially dangerous condition”.
Officials briefed councillors on the problem at a meeting of the full council yesterday, and said a report on the options for the site would go to a finance committee meeting next month.
Councillor Willie Young, the committee’s convener, said: “The reason that I asked for this report was because of the importance of this building to the city of Aberdeen and the necessity to ensure best value to the council taxpayer in terms of the cost of the repairs.
“The Town House is a vital part of the city’s heritage. The repairs and renovations must be of the highest quality as befits a structure that is close to the heart of Aberdonians.”
