Teenagers managed to pick up their GCSE results today despite around 50 firefighters fought a dramatic blaze at their school.
Ten fire engines, including an aerial platform, were sent to the fire at The Freeston Academy, in Normanton, West Yorkshire, after it broke out shortly after 9am.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said its crews contained the blaze to a two-storey annex to the school housing IT classrooms and a study area. A spokesman said no-one was hurt.
Scores of students arriving to pick up their exam results were still able to collect their grades as normal in the school’s sport centre, which was not affected.
