An Elgin grocery shop is pleading with customers to ensure their bikes are safely locked up outside following a recent theft.
Police are investigating after a bike worth between £100 and £500 was lifted from outside the Co-op shop in the town’s Pansport Road last weekend.
Staff have now put up signs urging cyclists who stop by to ensure their bikes are safely locked up while they are inside.
Team leader Lynsey Meikleham said: “We are aware of at least one recent occasion where a bike was removed from outside the store, and we are now doing our best to make sure customers are aware of that.
“Loads of people just pop their bike against the wall and think nothing of it.
“But if there are no staff members at the tills then we can’t keep an eye on it, and whoever has done this obviously acted very quickly.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We have had one report of a bike being stolen from that address at around 7pm last Saturday night, August 23.
“The bike owner had gone into the shop and left it unlocked, and when they came back it was gone.
“If anyone else has been affected by this we would encourage them to also report the matter to the police.”
Anyone with information about the theft could call 101.
