Manchester United are on the verge of signing Monaco attacker Anthony Martial for £36.6million.

The 19-year-old has been released from the France squad in order to travel to England to be put through his medical and sign a contract with the Red Devils.

A statement from the French Football Federation confirmed: “Anthony Martial asked France coach Didier Deschamps for permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.

“Taking into account the exceptional circumstances, the manager allowed the player this request.

“Anthony left Clairefontaine on Monday at 12:00 local time. He’ll return Tuesday morning.”

Martial scored eight goals in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season and could make his debut for the French first team this weekend.
