River Festival celebrates Moray waterways

A Moray beauty spot will play host to a festival celebrating the region’s natural landscape later this month.

The Findhorn, Nairn and Lossie Fisheries Trust is organising the event with the aim of promoting outdoor activities on the banks of the River Findhorn, at Logie Steading.

Watersports enthusiasts will be able to broach the river on inflatable tubes with local watersports outfit Ace Adventures, and there will be opportunities to learn about wildlife along the expanse.

The River Festival will also feature an “extreme” duck race along the rapids, with proceeds going towards improving the region’s waterways.

Organiser Valerie Wardlaw said: “The River Festival will be a celebration of the amazing wildlife found in and around our rivers, and will give people a chance to learn more about nature.

“We will have something for everyone.

“All funds raised at the event will support our work in keeping our rivers healthy, and the conservation efforts to save the majestic Atlantic salmon.”

The duck race is billed as being the “high point of the day”.

A group of rubber toys will be released below Randolph’s Leap, and canoeists from Ace Adventures will marshal their flow and rescue any that become stuck in eddies.

The owner of the winning entry will land a family raft trip down the Findhorn.

The event will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 27.
