A musical theatre show conceived in Moray and based on the life and times of Scotland’s national bard could embark on a lengthy stage run in Edinburgh.
Rock Academy Performing Arts, which is based in Lossiemouth, will bring its production of Robert Burns: The Musical to audiences in Edinburgh later this week.
The group says several theatrical bigwigs plan to attend the two performances, and if they are sufficiently impressed the show could soon begin a residency in Scotland’s capital.
Co-owner of the academy, Tish Tindall, yesterday outlined her hopes for the show she herself penned.
The 45-year-old, who also narrates the stage production, said: “To be able to perform the show in Edinburgh is, in itself, a dream.
“But we are in the very early stages of talks with some influential people, which could lead to it having a home in Scotland’s capital.
“Nothing is ever certain with these things, but we have received some very positive feedback.
“Our ultimate goal would be for it to have an eight month run in the city, and that’s what we are looking into.”
The performing arts group has been asked to tour the show through Australia and perform in New York, and would need to staff a touring production if the show were to embark on a run in Edinburgh.
Despite its success in the wider world, Ms Tindall says Rock Academy has “no plans” to leave its Moray base.
Robert Burns: The Musical was originally dreamed up by David Gest and Michael Jackson, and was then developed by Ms Tindall and her colleagues.
The show will play at the Churchill Theatre in Edinburgh on Friday and Saturday.
