Filming complete on Lossie documentary

Filming has wrapped on a documentary project celebrating the life and times of a seaside Moray community.

Churches across Lossiemouth joined forces with the town’s youngsters to capture local stories and characters on film over the summer.

Hours of footage was recorded during the project, which is designed to commemorate the past and present of the “Jewel of the Moray Firth”.

Those behind the documentary set their cameras rolling at some of the coastal town’s biggest annual events, and also recorded intimate interviews with several residents.

The Lossiemouth Northern Lights community film project was led by Yvonne Findlay, of arts group Creative Visions Moray, and Tim Flood from educational group Floodfilm.

Mrs Findlay, who is a native of the seaside town, praised the “amazing” response of the local children who helped piece the movie together.

Mrs Findlay said: “The film is about everybody in the town, and so many people had interesting stories to tell.

“The film represents a real coming together, and it surpassed my expectations.

“The response from the town and the children has been amazing, there were a lot of interesting twists and turns along the way but we got a huge amount of great footage.”

The movie-makers captured the action at the town’s Seafest extravaganza in July, and filmed the Logan’s Fun Day charity event and RAF Lossiemouth’s annual raft race last month.

Mrs Findlay is now working on editing the raw footage into a cohesive work of about an hour in length, and the film will premiere at the town’s St James’s Church on Saturday, October 31, at 7pm.

To mark the occasion a display featuring vintage photographs and handwritten memories will be exhibited in the building.

A matinee screening will take place the following Saturday, November 7, at St Gerardine’s Church at 10.30am.

Tickets are on sale in Buckleys on Queen Street, in the High Street post office, or from members of St. James’ Church Praise Group and all proceeds will go to charity.

CDs of the original soundtrack will be on sale at the screenings, and a DVD of the film is expected to be released in time for Christmas.
